Privacy policy

This notice explains how The Screen Surgery Limited uses personal information when you browse our store, place an order, use an account or contact us. It applies to identifiable people, including contacts at business customers.

Who is responsible and how to contact us

The Screen Surgery Limited is responsible for the personal information it uses to run its business and customer relationships. Company number: 10742563. Registered office: 34 Star Hill, Rochester, England, ME1 1XB.

For privacy questions, requests or complaints, email sales@thescreensurgery.com or write to Unit C3 Mockbeggar Farm, Town Road, Cliffe Woods, Kent, ME3 8EU, United Kingdom. Please say that your message is about privacy.

Information we collect and where it comes from

  • Orders and accounts: names, business details, contact information, billing and delivery addresses, purchased items, order history, payment status and relevant account or credit records.
  • Support and returns: messages, chat conversations, return reasons, photographs, fitting evidence and other information you choose to supply.
  • Website use: device and browser information, IP address, pages or searches, technical logs and cookie or similar technology identifiers, according to the technology and choices involved.
  • Communications: subscription preferences, consent or objection records, and interactions with communications where the relevant measurement is enabled lawfully.

We receive information from you, from the device you use, and from providers involved in your transaction, such as payment services, delivery services and our store platform. A colleague or business account administrator may also provide business contact details.

Payment providers process the payment credentials needed for your chosen payment method. Do not send full card details, passwords or unnecessary sensitive information in an email, chat or return request.

Why we use information and our lawful bases

  • Taking and fulfilling orders: to perform a contract with you or take steps you request before one. Where you act for a business, we also rely on our legitimate interests in managing that business relationship.
  • Support, returns and account administration: to fulfil contractual and legal obligations, and for our legitimate interests in resolving queries and providing a reliable service.
  • Accounting and compliance: to meet tax, accounting and other legal duties, and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims where appropriate.
  • Security and fraud prevention: our legitimate interests in protecting customers, our services and transactions, subject to the rights of the people affected.
  • Marketing and optional website measurement: consent where required, or legitimate interests where the relevant rules permit and those interests are not overridden by your rights. Cookie and electronic-marketing rules also apply.

Where information is needed to process an order or answer a request, we will explain if we cannot proceed without it. You can ask about the lawful basis for a particular use.

Who receives information

We share relevant information with service providers needed to operate the store, including Shopify, payment providers, couriers, returns and support providers, and providers of account, communication and technical services. They receive information appropriate to the service they provide.

Our installed Persistent Cart service associates basket information with a customer account to save and restore baskets across devices. Store-credit services support account credit and its use on eligible orders. These functions involve relevant account identifiers and transaction information.

Where optional advertising or measurement tools are enabled, the relevant providers may receive online identifiers, interaction or transaction information subject to the applicable permissions. We may also disclose information to professional advisers, authorities where legally required, or parties involved in a lawful business transfer with appropriate safeguards.

Some providers act for us; others, such as certain payment services and Shopify for particular services, may act as controllers for their own purposes. See Shopify’s privacy policy and the notice of any payment service you choose. Contact us for more information about recipients relevant to your order or enquiry.

Processing outside the UK

Our platform and service providers may process information outside the UK, including in countries where their systems or teams are based. Where transfer rules apply, the relevant transfer must be covered by an applicable adequacy arrangement or appropriate contractual safeguards and any additional measures required.

You can contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data. Shopify explains its international processing in its privacy information.

How long we keep information

Retention depends on the purpose and the information involved. We keep order and accounting records for applicable tax and accounting requirements, and relevant records for resolving disputes or legal claims. Support and warranty records are retained for the time needed to handle the matter and any continuing obligations.

Account and preference records are retained while needed to provide the service or respect your choices. A limited suppression record may be kept after you unsubscribe so that we do not add you back to marketing. We review whether records are still needed and delete or anonymise them when they are no longer required.

A deletion request does not require us to remove information we must lawfully retain. Ask us if you need the retention criteria for a specific record.

Marketing and your choices

You can unsubscribe using the link in a marketing email or by contacting us. Essential order and service messages may still be sent. A trade tag or previous purchase does not automatically amount to consent for every form of marketing.

Optional permissions are separate from accepting sales terms. Browser “Do Not Track” settings are not a substitute for the store’s available privacy controls. Cookie and browser-storage choices are explained below.

Cookies and other browser storage

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. The store can also use local storage, session storage, pixels or similar tools. Some information lasts only for a browsing session; other information remains until it expires or is removed.

Our theme uses browser storage for functions such as remembering a chosen catalogue view, a VAT display preference and a temporary quick-order selection. The platform and installed services may use additional technologies.

Shopping and essential functions

Storage supports the basket, checkout, security, sign-in and recording privacy choices. Some technologies are necessary for a service you request. Blocking them in your browser may prevent parts of the store from working.

Storage rules depend on a technology’s actual purpose. Calling something a preference or a feature does not by itself make it exempt from consent requirements.

Analytics, preferences and advertising

Where enabled, analytics tools measure use of the store, preference tools remember choices, and advertising tools can measure campaigns or personalise advertising. Technologies that require consent should operate only with that consent; any exemption must meet its legal conditions.

Use the categories and information shown in the store’s privacy controls when making a choice. Accepting sales terms or continuing to browse does not, by itself, give consent to optional advertising tracking.

  1. Use the cookie banner or privacy preferences offered on the store to accept, reject or adjust optional categories.
  2. Use the store’s privacy-settings link, where provided, to revisit a previous choice.
  3. You can also remove or block website data through your browser settings. This can reset shopping preferences, sign-in or basket information.

If the controls are unavailable or do not work, email sales@thescreensurgery.com and tell us which device and browser you are using. Emailing us does not itself change settings on your device.

Providers and duration

Shopify supplies the store platform. Its cookie information describes technologies used across Shopify services. The exact technologies on this store also depend on the services you use, installed apps and your privacy choices.

The store’s privacy controls and the relevant provider information should be consulted for current categories and durations. Contact us if you need details of a particular identifier or provider. We do not treat an old generic cookie list as a definitive inventory of this store.

Automated checks and account features

Our platform and payment providers use technical checks to help detect fraud, protect accounts and process payments. Website features also use order and account information to display eligibility for services or benefits.

If you believe an account restriction or automated result is wrong, contact us to request a review. Where data-protection law gives you rights concerning a solely automated decision with a legal or similarly significant effect, you can ask us to explain the decision and the safeguards available.

Your privacy rights

Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you can request access to your information, correction, erasure, restriction of processing or portability. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time. You can withdraw consent where we rely on it; this does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.

Email us to make a request. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity and locate the records. We respond within the applicable legal timescale and explain any lawful limitation or extension.

Complaints and changes

Contact us if you have a concern about how we use personal information. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or to another competent authority where applicable.

Our trade-parts store is not directed at children. If you believe a child has given us personal information inappropriately, please contact us.

We update this notice when our practices or requirements change. Material changes will be brought to your attention where required. This notice does not replace any more specific privacy information given for a particular service.
